Missing In Action: Where In The World Was The Dark Rose…?

When I looked at the date of my last blog post, I realized that I truly have been missing in action. While a lot has happened in the almost 2 years since my last post, the one thing I wasn’t doing was writing(at least not that much). But, I am no longer missing. I am back in action with my writing and I am relaunching ‘The Dark Rose Monologues.’ For this first post back I’ll share with you just what I’ve been up to while I was away. There have been awesome moments and there have been some not awesome moments. But, I will share it all with you.

Since my last post in June 2016, I’ve ramped up my solo travel adventures. I was able to visit 16 cities/towns in 8 different countries. Along the way I saw some amazing sights and met some really interesting people and made several new friends. There will be future posts about all of my travel adventures. Among the highlights, I would have to say was going to the Arctic Circle in Finland and staying in a glass igloo with 2 of my dearest friends. I even ate reindeer(don’t knock it til you’ve tried it). I can’t wait to share with you all of the adventures.

In November 2017 I fulfilled a life long dream of living abroad and moved to Madrid, Spain. I went through and intense TEFL program, became certified to teach English as a foreign language, and am now teaching English . And I have to say, I think I have learned just as much, if not more, from my students on a variety of subjects. I am now knowledgeable subjects ranging  from how t.v. shows and movies get their ratings to how to make mate tea the Uruguayan way. And each of my students have varying personalities but are all very warm and open and I have come to appreciate and love them all.

Another cool thing I got to do was be on stage in front of a small crowd. One of sweet dear friends, Carey, is a musician and singer/songwriter. She organized a few shows where she would invite some of her other musically talented friends to perform with her. She had read some of my previous blog postings and asked me if I would consider reading some of writings in between songs. I thought about it for a few days and agreed to do it. I was a bit nervous the first show but, with Carey’s encouragement I got up and read my words on stage. I LOVED it! I did it two more times before I left New York. The great thing about it was that each person on stage invited their friends to come see them. So the audience was a mixture of some of your own friends and people who’ve you never met before. So, to have complete strangers come up to me afterwards and express how much they enjoyed it was pretty cool. I’ll also be sharing a few of the new things I wrote for those shows here as well.

My time away hasn’t been all good, though. On November 4, 2016 my mother passed away at the age of 79. My family, especially my father, are continuing to grieve. Grief is like a land mine. One day you’re going along like normal and you step on a grief mine and your emotions are completely blown apart. I really don’t know what else to say about that. I guess, I can say I’m dealing with it the best way I know how, by talking to close friends, relishing in the good memories, and lots of laughter.

Well, there you have it. Now you have an idea what life has been like for me(the good and bad) since my last post. But, I hope your interest has been peaked for what’s coming next on ‘The Dark Rose Monologues.’ If you haven’t already, please sign up to receive email notifications when the next posts arrive. Also, you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. All the info is located to the right. And if you like what you read, please share with your friends.

Until Next Time…
