A month and a half before my trip I met Feli online (out of respect for him, I will not be using his real name). Feli was a handsome man with salt and pepper hair, a scruffy face and beautiful blue eyes. He was also an extremely intelligent man. He has 2 PhD’s in Psychology and Neuroscience (a huge turn on for me is brains). I also have a thing for teachers and Feli is a professor of Neuroscience at a university in Madrid. I think you’re getting the picture here. Anyway, after chatting with him I got the impression that he also had a quiet demeanor about him that intrigued me about him. Needless to say, I was hoping that at some point on my trip I would meet him and spend some time with him.
A few days before leaving, Feli offered to pick me up from the airport. I was set to leave Atlanta September 27, 2012 and arrive in Madrid the next afternoon. The day before I left, Feli said that he was attending a conference for work and had a function to attend afterwards that a colleague had arranged. He tried to get out of it but was unable to and, therefore, we would not be able to hang out that evening. He was, however, still planning pick me up from the airport and take me into the city in between his conference and dinner. I was impressed and flattered but let him know that it wasn’t necessary. He insisted that he would do it. Who am I to refuse a handsome man? 🙂
My flight arrived and I made it through baggage claim and customs without a hitch. I checked my voicemail and there was a message from Feli saying that he was running a few minutes late because of traffic but would definitely be there. A few moments later, I was greeted by the beautiful smile of Feli. He was even more handsome in person. I had total butterflies in my stomach and suddenly had sweaty palms. In an instant I had just turned into my 14yr old self. We hugged. There was definitely an instant charge of chemistry and I was looking forward to spending time with this man.
I had landed at the height of afternoon/evening rush hour traffic. It took us about 45 minutes to get into the city. On the one hand, I felt really bad that he was rushing to get me to my lodging and then was going to have to rush back out of the city to his function. On the other hand, I was enjoying every minute of the rush and electric charge of riding in the car with Feli. We talked the entire way and by the end of the ride we had our hands resting on each other’s knees. My God it felt like it was a thousand degrees in there. All I kept saying to myself was to stay calm. When in reality on the inside I was doing cartwheels and screaming yippee!!
I arrived on Friday and my birthday was three days later on Monday. Feli, informed me that he had taken Monday off from work and that we were going to spend the entire day together taking a long drive out of the city to sight see. I was in disbelief. It was one of the sweetest gestures any guy has ever done for me. I wasn’t going to see him over the weekend as he had to handle some family matters. I had the entire weekend to myself to hang around the city, settle in, and go crazy with anticipation. It was the longest weekend of my life!! Come on MONDAY!!
Feli lives in a village, or suburb, outside of Madrid. He gave me detailed instructions on which train to catch and which station to get off. Monday morning I gathered my things and headed for the train station. An hour later I arrived at the agreed upon train station and awaited Feli’s arrival to pick me up. Not much later he arrived and we were on our way.
Our first stop was for breakfast. He took me to a café that he frequents and bought me a traditional Spanish breakfast: bread with crushed tomatoes spread on it and olive oil, cheese, juice, and coffee. Great way to start the day. Next we dropped my things off at Feli’s flat and we were off for our day of sightseeing.
