A strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world. This is the definition of Wanderlust. Wanderlust may reflect an intense urge for self-development by experiencing the unknown, confronting unforeseen challenges, getting to know unfamiliar cultures, ways of life and behaviors. For people with Wanderlust, the desire to travel can be so intense that it can alter a person’s mood. I know from personal experience how moody and unhappy I become when I don’t have a trip, big or small, planned and on the calendar for the near future. It’s almost like a drug except it’s legal. I wonder what the commercial for that would sound like? (more…)

Missing In Action: Where In The World Was The Dark Rose…?
When I looked at the date of my last blog post, I realized that I truly have been missing in action. While a lot has happened in the almost 2 years since my last post, the one thing I wasn’t doing was writing(at least not that much). But, I am no longer missing. I am back in action with my writing and I am relaunching ‘The Dark Rose Monologues.’ For this first post back I’ll share with you just what I’ve been up to while I was away. There have been awesome moments and there have been some not awesome moments. But, I will share it all with you. (more…)

I Choose…Happiness
On any given day I struggle to be positive and to be happy. Why do I have these struggles you ask? I struggle because I live in a society and world culture that makes it difficult to sometimes smile or even breathe. I am a black male. I am gay. I am human. On any given day I weep, I sigh, I am mad, I am stressed out because of being any and/or all three of these things. -

Procrastination Is So 2013…
So, here I am starting this again. It’s been almost 3 years since my last post. I may have taken this procrastination thing a bit far. But, sometimes it takes a late night conversation with a good and loyal longtime friend to get moving again. Or, being challenged and given a deadline to get back to this from another friend that has me typing this. Or, it’s being moved by yet another tragedy in the news (more on this in the next post) that has me wanting to spill out the words swirling around in my brain. Whatever the reasons, I’m shaking off the dust of vulnerability and reaching out to those that loved reading the blog and hopefully finding new readers to share my thoughts with. -

The Best Date EVER…part 2
In case you need to start from the beginning, click here for The Best Date Ever…part 1 . If not, continue reading and see how the story ends.
After dropping off my things at Feli’s we hopped in his car and took off for our day of adventure. We drove up through the breathtaking Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range just north of Madrid. The conversation flowed with ease as Feli played tour guide and the amazing views from the mountains surrounded us. We drove until we reached the small town of San Ildefonso. San Ildefonso is this really quaint small town and is also where the Palacio Real de la Granja de San Ildefonso is located. Also known as the Royal Farm Palace, this was a former summer residence for Spanish Royals. It is no longer lived in and has been turned into a museum. I can see why the royals spent time here. The magnificent old world architecture surrounded by ornate gardens, trees, and fountains was simply magnificent and awe inspiring. -

The Best Date EVER…part 1
One year ago, I arrived in Madrid to celebrate my 39thbirthday. A birthday that was unlike any other. On this birthday, I had the best date of my entire life. I had been to Spain on 2 previous occasions and had fallen in love with the country. The people, the food, the architecture, and the culture had stolen my heart. I wanted to go out of the country for my birthday and couldn’t think of anywhere else that I wanted to be. -

How I Spent My Summer Vacation…
So, it’s been a really long time since I’ve written to you. I’ve had some life changes, all for the good. I’m no longer in Atlanta but traveling around with my job. I spent the first part of the summer in Bentonville, AR. If you didn’t already know, Bentonville is the home of Wal-Mart. The original Sam Walton store that eventually morphed into Wal-Mart super centers all over the world is still located in Bentonville and is a part of the town welcome center there. The people in Northwest Arkansas were pretty friendly for the most part and I enjoyed working with the staff there. Northwest Arkansas is also located in an area of the country that is prone to Tornadoes and had a few while I was there. -

If You Don’t Have Anything Nice To Say…
We all remember what our mothers and grandmothers taught us; “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” It’s an excellent concept that I think worked a lot in the past. I’m pretty sure that if more us followed this rule, there would be a lot of people who never spoke. Hell, depending on my mood I’m sure there be a few weeks here or there that it would appear that I was mute. But, certainly silence is better than some of the nasty, hateful things that are being spewed at people today. What makes it worse is that now with social media you can be as nasty and hateful as you want from a phone or computer without having to feel any of the guilt that comes from seeing the other person’s wounded face.

Game, Set, Match…
To most of my friends it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of tennis. I watch tournaments online and on t.v. religiously. I truly am a fanatic. My room mates and I had The Tennis Channel when I was still living in SF. The amount of hours of tennis watching that I subjected them to clearly shows what good and patient people they were. I currently play about 2 to 3 times a week or more. And tennis channel is still a must on my television.

Kevin’s Theme….
It’s been quite a while since I’ve written a blog entry. 14 months to be exact. But, who’s counting? So much has gone on in that time. A lot got worse before things got better. But, things are better and that’s the important thing. Where should I begin?
